The Farm Visit: An Islamic Approach to Raising Animals

He created the cattle, in which there is warmth for you and [other] uses and some of them you eat.

There is in them a beauty for you when you bring them home for rest and when you drive them forth to pasture.

The Qur’an - Surat al-Naḥl, The Bee - 16:5-6

Join us on October 18th at 12:00pm CDT at Shaykh Rizwan Arastu’s family farm for an afternoon of learning about the ethics of farming and gathering as a community to socialize and pray together. Shaykh Rizwan will also demonstrate the Islamic method for making meat permissible (halal) to eat.

We hope that, besides getting together as a community in the autumn air, this will be an opportunity to learn about a faithful approach to raising animals and using them for nourishing our families. Toward the end of the event, Shaykh Rizwan will slaughter an animal as an experiential method of teaching the rules of Islamic slaughter.

We hope that the experience will be an opportunity for us to better appreciate the gift of nourishment that we derive from the life of an animal. However, if you or your children prefer please feel free to move to another part of the farm or leave just before the demonstration.

Address: 31W330 Wolsfeld Dr. Elgin, IL. It’s the last house on the right with a red barn mailbox.
