The Biblio Collective: Reading Dr. Sherman Jackson's Islam and the Blackamerican: Looking toward the Third Resurrection V

For the summer of 2020 we will be reading and discussing Dr. Sherman Jackson's Islam and the Blackamerican: Looking toward the Third Resurrection.

For our fifth and final meeting on August 17 (a Monday), please read Chapter 5, “Blackamerican Islam Between Religion, Nationalism, and Spirituality.”

Register and Join Here

The text will help us explore, among other issues:

  • an important, and often underappreciated, picture of the heritage of the Muslim community in America

  • how to navigate questions around religious and cultural authenticity

  • shaping communal purposes and priorities

  • scholarship and its role in communal cultivation

  • the question of strengthening a community composed of various identities and histories

  • the question of white supremacy and its effects on the Muslim community’s collective psyche

In addition, Bayan Online is offering an online course by Dr. Jackson, Islam in Blackamerica, for free. We encourage you to go through the modules online to augment your reading of the text and deepen our discussions during the Biblio Collective.

We encourage you to purchase the book, but a PDF can be found in our Reading Resources Folder.
